At Ramsey Solutions we used Magnolia for our content management systems (CMS). Due to its ease of use we preferred to have our designers and marketers make updates to the website, rather than wasting our software engineers’ time. However, we were finding that our team was fielding a lot of questions from people who didn’t understand how to use the platform correctly. So we created a training class to get everyone up to speed.

Magnolia 101 is a two hour long training class that we offer to any team member that is interested in learning how to use Magnolia. The class has been running monthly for over a year and half now and our classes are generally around twenty people in size.

In the first part of the training we cover how to think globally, rather than only thinking about their business unit. It is important to consider a users full journey through the site, not just what happens when they land on your page.

In the second part of the training we walk through the basics of a webpage and what components are.

In order to keep everyone engaged and having fun, we then switch it up and play a game to see how well the training is sticking. From there we have everyone open Magnolia on their computers and we walkthrough actually building parts of a webpage together.

By implementing this training, our team has drastically decreased the number of Magnolia related questions we receive from other teams!
